A Prayer for my Good friend K!

Life is really not fair. Just had some news that a good friend of mine is suffering from the BIG C. He had it years ago and that was the reason why they amputated one of his legs but even after that he kept on living and kept on playing soccer, his favorite sport even with just 1 leg. He was a living example that even if you are somewhat crippled that you can still do so many things. He did not think that it was a hindrance. He made it not a hindrance but a challenge to overcome and overcome it he did. After many years, the C recurred and it has become a force to be reckoned with. Right now, he is at Stage 4 of the C. My sorrow is endless. My prayers go out to God for him and his family and for this trial that they are facing. He has 3 small kids with his lovely wife and this makes it all the more sadder. I was on the phone with him earlier. His enthusiasm is still there but I detect sad undertones. Life is really not fair. He who is such a contribution to this world. Why him? We would all think that but then again we do not know God’s reasons for things. Plans are already laid out for us by God and sometimes reasons for things escape us but later on we figure them out somehow. I pray for K, that he may have the strength to face all the trials that he is facing right now, I pray for his family, may they be strong during this ordeal and most of all I pray for a miracle…

At the end of the day, all we can do is just PRAY!

My “theater” history

Last night was one of firsts for me. First time to watch a stage play in Manila. My stage experiences having been limited to productions in Cebu. I realized that my own theater history was something that I should write about to thank the people who have been instrumental in making me enjoy and love plays. Life certainly has been more interesting with the addition of theater.

My first encounter with a play was when I was still working for this cozy coffee shop in Cebu when I was still in college. It was called East, West and with that stint at East, West I gained good friends and a huge amount of very interesting memories. I was working as a Barista then. During that time, my employer H, who was a great lover of theater, started his own production outfit which he aptly named “Little Boy Productions”. In one of their events, they brought Eve Ensler’s the “Vagina Monologues” to Cebu and I was asked to usher in the event. That was my first stage play. I loved that experience and ever since then I got hooked on theater. During my Barista days, I met good friends who have made a mark in my life and one of these was Anne. We had good times getting drunk together, partying on Friday’s and sleep over parties. Up until now, she has remained an anchor in my life. It was with her that I watched “Once on this Island”, “Love Letters” and etc. We enjoyed plays together. So with this entry I hereby thank H, who introduced me to my first stage play and to Anne who has been my constant companion on our forays into getting ourselves more immersed in “theater”.

Thanks H and thanks Anne! Anne, more happy years to our friendship. My life would not have been the same without you by my side.
