Today is a happy occasion for both Senator Mar and broadcaster Korina. It is their wedding day. It was supposed to be really grand in line with Mar’s Presidential bid but then political event stepped in and Mar is now a VP candidate running alongside Sen. Noy Aquino. With this in mind, I do hope that their marriage lasts for a long time and that they have found a partner with each other which is quite hard nowadays. Please see the story I wrote about it in ManilaInformer.com
My friend is about to break up with her partner and it saddens me therefore I made the title as it is. I hope they get things settled. So my question, to love or not to love at all? This is confusing. But I guess there are happy endings as well as there are sad ones.
Ta ta for now!

As a daily commuter in Philippine traffic, you can’t help but notice that there are these people shouting out the route of the passenger bus or jeepney that happens to be along and ferries people to these commuter vehicles. These are the people that you call, “the barkers”. They range from men, women and children and their only job for the rest of the day is to call out the routes so that people will get aboard the commuter vehicles. Some are so violent at times when the driver or the conductor doesn’t give them anything after they have called and called out to people. Personally I think that we really don’t need them and that they are just an added expense to the drivers that make their living. I mean, commuters/passengers regardless if they are called out to or not will always ride the buses or jeepneys to get to work and to go home or just to be wherever they want to be. These barkers are sometimes abusive of the drivers. Once I was riding on this bus wherein the barker who was calling out rode inside the bus and would not go down unless the bus conductor gave him 50PHP in exchange for his services. I mean cmon. People will always ride the buses or jeeps whether these barkers call out or not. I think that they just want the easy job hence they resort to this kind of profession which is really not needed at all. People are not dumb and the drivers have their conductors to call out to passengers. So they are just really for me an added expense and sometimes they can be so violent and abusive if not given what they want.

After negotiations almost falling off the table, it has already been finalized.
A Pacquiao and Hatton match up inside the boxing ring is already set. It will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this coming May 2, 2009. It is going to be a 12-round match for Hatton’s World Junior Welterweight Championship. Manny, 5 division champion and Ring Magazine’s Best Pound for Pound Fighter in the World, will battle Hatton, Ring Magazine and IBO World Junior Welterweight Champion. For sure this is going to be an exciting fight. Manny has even made comments that he might retire after this fight.
Does Manny have what it takes? Is he going to take down Hatton or will he bow down to Hatton in this most awaited and is now being dubbed as the “Fight of the Year”. I sure am excited to see how the end will go and who will emerge victorious in this fight. I am afraid for Manny but I can’t help but feel excited at the thought of the match too and I hope that Manny is going to give Hatton a run for his money. And speaking of money, I think that this fight regardless of who wins or not is going to make both players rich in their pockets.
So to all of you Filipinos out there lucky enough to be in Las Vegas during this time. I hope you guys watch it and support our Filipino Champ. I’m crossing my fingers.

It is the Chinese New Year once more and this year was something new for me. Since I am now with my family, hence my mom (who is 50% Chinese by the way) suggested that we go to Ongpin St. in Binondo because she

Ongpin St.
wanted to celebrate Chinese New Year and also to explore Binondo for herself. Since she has been here, she really doesn’t go out for adventures but now that I am here, we go on adventures and this time she wanted a trip to Binondo. I was of course happy to oblige because I love everything Chinese and I love that part about me.
After taking a bus that would take us there, we stopped at Sta. Cruz and immediately the smell of horse dung assailed my senses. Wow! Yup we were here. That in itself was the trademark and I could see the kalesa’s all lined up ready to take the next customer on a horse ride. It was a Sunday and normally, shops were only open half a day so we didn’t get to see much but we vowed to come back again soon. We walked for a couple of minutes to reach Ongpin Street and immediately I could tell that we were near because I could see red lanterns in plenty and dragons as decorations

Purple Fire Truck
and a big sign that said, “Welcome to Chinatown”.
Our first stop was lunch at Eng Bee Tin, famous for their hopia and other Chinese deli’s that are bound to delight you. We bought loads of tikoy in different flavors (pandan, ube, strawberry, sweet corn and the regular white one), lots of hopia in different flavors as well and some other tasty stuff that you can find in Chinese deli’s. We ate lunch at a very good price and both the mom and I were stuffed full. After lunchtime we set about checking out the open general merchandise stores because I wanted to buy Zoe a bracelet to ward of evil.
Then we traversed and checked out the different

in Binondo Church
food stalls and also of course visited Binondo Church. We also were treated to an eyeful of purple-colored Fire Trucks along the streets. Store shops sold tikoy in volume. People were flocking to buy carton after carton of tikoy and other stuff. Chinatown is indeed a haven for the foodie. My last stop was a Chinese drugstore where they sold “Sibut”. The mom and I went home feeling very good and very satisfied indeed and made plans to visit Chinatown again soon…

Yesterday night me and 2 of my officemates had this really funny and spontaneous thought – to go to Snow World @ Star City. I have been hearing a lot about it but haven’t had the time to visit so yesterday night after work we went to Star City to explore it and of course to play in the snow. We
were like kids, going into an entertainment park and we were all laughing with glee about how there were just 3 of us going on the adventure. Star City had a lot of rides to offer and we enjoyed watching other people shout and enjoy themselves on the rides. I saw that there was even a pool with the medicinal fish and I will try this out the next time that I visit. We first had dinner and then we paid our tickets. It was a total of PHP 160 for the entrance and unlimited entry to Snow World. We stood in line and were so excited and we even planned to use our cellphones and cameras once inside although there was a big sign there that no cameras or cellphones should be used inside to take photos because they had their own photographers. Business is business! So, there was this lady distributing plastic for the cellphones and other gadgets. We had to put our gadgets inside the plastic and tie it. We did and then we lined up to get our jackets. They do provide jackets as it can be quite cold out there. We excitedly put the jackets on and prepared ourselves for a cool adventure. And then, we were going inside. And was it super cold. They had ice sculptures and a machine that made snow flakes and we were freezing. I could feel my hands getting numb but we were happy. It’s like when you were little and you discovered a new toy. For me personally that was how it felt. hahahahah! Even if we were freezing and I could feel the cold seep into my bones I was happy. Friend A and I even did the “slide down the ice” thing twice with friend G just once. We enjoyed ourselves and even if our butts were dragged through ice it was a very enjoyable experience. We even went as far as to bring out our cellphones and take pictures as well as the camera that we brought and we were discovered but then we just laughed and then went out. We had ourselves photographed by their resident photog for PHP 100/shot. We got 2 nice shots. Very happy and fun night! Thanks friend A & G.

This is something of a rant. I feel frustrated actually. In the previous months we saw the rising prices of fuel so our transport community did their strikes to be able to raise the cost of commuter’s fare and raise they did. They added to the usual fare and well I was pretty happy about that since I also felt for the plight of the drivers but now I am agitated. Now when the prices of oil has seen major rollbacks, the transport group takes its SWEET time in reducing our fare. Why does this happen? When its an increase, they want it fast but when its a decrease of fare, they take their ungodly time. They have taken advantage of the situation now. They say they are still not earning, heck if they are not then why are they still driving public transportation? I am an everyday commuter and as such feel the brunt and the frustration that when the prices of fuel has gone down nothing much is being done to lower down the fare as well. Quite convenient for drivers if you ask me. When its in their own best interest, they want it done fast but if its not, then it takes forever to have it done and they have all these excuses. I tell you, this SUCKS! Sucks big time! Most of all for the students who can barely go to school and for everybody trying to make a living. I could save up those 2 or 1 pesos for another day and make my savings bigger. Commuters unite!
