Early Morning Crash – Coastal Toll Gate September 08,2008

I woke up relatively early last Monday and quite ready to face the day. Had breakfast and then left the house at around 8:30 AM not knowing what was awaiting me. As I was seated on the bus, I felt myself going to sleep because I did not have long uninterrupted sleep because of zoe. Did my daily prayers and then watched the same buildings passing by the window and all was relatively at peace until I reached the Coastal Toll Gate. The bus that I was in was slowing down because it was getting ready to stop and pay the required toll and right before my very eyes, I saw a car going at a fast speed totally without control and ran right smack into the orange MMDA barriers that were located at the sides. Wow! I saw it happen so fast. I could not think properly. I was straining my neck and saw that the passenger side in the front was heavily smashed up and the passengers, the driver and the other one, were leaning in their seats so I think they were quite ok except of course for a few broken bones or something. I was so engrossed in finding out if they were ok or not that I did not notice that the car ahead of them had also bumped into a barrier and had the engine part really smashed up good. Out came the young driver of the silver car obviously at a loss as to how he figured in that accident. He had that shocked look on his face. And then a few meters away, I came upon a van that also was included in the accident. The back had been severely bumped into. The petrol was flowing out of its tank. The driver was lying down and holding his arm in the driver seat. It was some kind of a collision. And then as I looked at the side, I saw a woman sitting down with her legs spread and people were crowding around her. I think that she got hit somewhat but not too severely. What a crash! I could feel my heart pounding because it seemed to be a really bad vehicular accident involving a lot of vehicles and people at that too. I couldn’t see any blood and that kind of comforted me. But it was really a scary sight to watch and I do hope that everyone was ok and nothing bad happened to all those that were involved in the accident. It was quite harrowing to watch and very early in the morning for the accident.

Organic Food – a healthy alternative to your regular baby food.

Way back then when I was still in high school and had baby sisters and a brother I watched my mom as she would feed my siblings with Cerelac or Gerber. They were the ultimate names in baby food as far as I am concerned. Nowadays, with the advent of healthy eating I scoured the internet for a better alternative on what to feed Zoe. I chanced upon the word ORGANIC FOOD. I looked this up in the internet and found out that this was indeed a better way for eating. Not only for kids but also for adults like me. What is organic food? According to Wikipedia, Organic foods are produced according to certain production standards, meaning they are grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, human waste, or sewage sludge, and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or food additives. I personally think that this is a better way of life and eating. So I found this product – Earth’s Best.

Here in the Philippines I think that there is only 1 store that sells Earth’s Best products and that is Healthy Options stores in malls. Here in Makati, I patronize their store inside Rustan’s near glorietta. Its the nearest Healthy Options store that I could find in the vicinity of my office. It has been a couple of months now that I have started giving organic food to Zoe and so far so good. I just want to make her eating habits more healthier starting right now when she is but a few months old. She actually has a very healthy appetite and eats almost anything. Vegetables and all that green stuff. Thankfully she hasn’t developed any allergies to any kind of food group yet and hopefully never does. I experienced as a kid how bad it is to have food allergies and I hope Zoe never does.

A Filipina makes us all PROUD!

Who says that being in a tropical country stops us from competing in a winter sport? We don’t have snow but we have an ice princess that has recently come home from competing in the US in Figure Skating. While our Philippine team to the Beijing Olympics was not successful, Anna Isabel Villafuerte a 13-year-old Filipina from Camarines Sur went on to participate in a series of ice skating events organized by the USFSA (United States Figure Skating Association) and the ISI (International Skating Institute). She emerged as winner in all the 4 categories that she joined bagging a total of 11 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. She really makes us so proud. With the fact that we don’t have ice here in the Philippines but we still managed to participate and excel in a winter sport is indeed no simple accomplishment. She is the only Filipino to date to be accredited by the prestigious Colorado-based USFSA. She will be an inspiration to all young people out there that despite limitations we can always find our way around it and be successful. Such is her story. I admire this girl and hope that she wins more and more medals in the next Winter Olympics this coming 2010 in Vancouver, Canada. Go Philippines!

Movie Review – For the First Time Starring KC Concepcion and Richard Guitterez

After how many days since its opening, I finally had the chance to watch this movie with my friend Van. We went to Glorietta to catch the 8pm show. Bought food to accompany our excited selves to the movie house and we were looking forward to watching KC and Richard on the big screen. Cinema was quite empty probably because of the fact that it was the middle of the working week and probably because it has already been a week after the movie first opened. We sat down and proceeded to get comfy to watch and be “kilig” over the couple. What happened was something else. At the start of the movie, me and my friend were quite captivated and oohhhing and aaahhhing over the beautiful location of Santorini in Greece. The place is really a haven and now I have a longing to explore the quaintness of Santorini. That was one of the good parts of the show. Expectedly so, the first KC movie is not quite that great. It does not for me (take note “for me”) live up to its hype. Understandably so, KC’s first debut is not quite that good. In fact, I would call it funny. There was a time that I was so stumped with her acting and also with Richard’s. Me and Van were like laughing over her drama and some people in our backs were snickering too. But there were also times that we wanted to cry. I think it was the father and daughter reconciliation scene towards the end of the movie. But this I have to say though. Undeniably KC and Richard do have chemistry and I think they are the cutest couple to hit Philippine showbiz right now. Their cutesy scenes were “kilig” scenes for me and Van. Hopefully, their next film will be a better one. On a scale of 1-5 with 5 as the highest, I’d rate this movie a 2.5.

Eraserheads Reunion Concert @ The Fort

One of the most awaited concerts for this year was the Eraserheads Reunion Concert which was slated to happen last August 30, 2008. For those of you who are not familiar with them, the E-HEADS are considered as the Philippine equivalent of the Beatles. They started a trend in Philippine music and they are considered as history makers in their own right. I grew up listening to their songs in high school and singing along with my friends to the tunes of “Alapaap”, “Huling El Bimbo” and so on to name a few. Even if I don’t have records of their albums, I still memorize the lines that I sang about 10yrs ago and remember a time of innocence gone by. Much hype and confusion surrounded the reunion concert as its rumored initial sponsor was a large tobacco company, the cigarette company backed out though at the last minute because of many controversies surrounding its sponsorship. Not until August 28, 2008 2-days before the said reunion concert were announcements of where you can buy the tickets were released. I was waiting for this concert. My friend and I had already registered at the Red List so that we could get free passes. We were searching the internet for news of where and how might we get the tickets. Looking at blogs too. Thankfully another sponsor was now in the game. So August 30, 2008 the concert happened. My sister who is like 6yrs younger than I am and also a fan was present there. I wasn’t able to make it because I was busy preparing for Mama’s 50th birthday. She told me that there were a lot of people present during that night and PEP estimated the count to 60,000 fans.Whoa! Truly a large number. But then an unfortunate thing happened. Lead vocalist for Eraserheads, Ely Buendia was rushed immediately to Makati Medical a few minutes after they had their 1st break. It seems that he was experiencing chest pains. Later on he was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center. Ely had already undergone 2 angioplasty surgeries last year after his heart attack. The concert was cut short. Instead of 3 hours of Eraserheads music. There was only 1 but I’m sure it was worth it somehow. The fans were not making any trouble about the aborted concert. They were just concerned for Ely. They were really fans. As I read from Sun Star Manila, Ely’s family has already commented that he is already in stable condition and just needs a lot of rest. Probably the strain of practices and the concert took its toll and added to that was the death of Ely’s mom 2 days before the said concert. I’m sure the Eraserheads Reunion Concert was a success even if it was short-lived and hopefully they will get together once more. Ely, get well soon!
